Santa was really nice to me and found a new Masterbuilt 30" smoker sort of under the tree. Been enjoying experimenting with it and learning how to smoke different meats 'n things but have a question about the construction. We have a rough tiled back porch and a paver side area in the porch with a screened roof. Like to use the smoker in the side area but like to store it protected under roof.

Issue is the drip pan is mounted on the back right between the two wheels. The handle at the top back and the wheels make it look like you could lean it back and roll it around like a hand truck. But the drip pan is so low it hits the ground as soon as I lean it back much at all. Removed the drip pan to move it once and left a trail of greasy dripping across the pavers. That did not go over very well :O(

Question is, how does everyone move their smokers? Looks constructed to move it easily but that pesky drop pan hinders the whole idea. And don't care to just drag it across rough pavers or the bottom won't last long at all.

Any hints?
Thanks!

I foil over the inside bottom drip pan, covering the drain hole in the pan. If there is liquid in the inside drip pan, I remove it and dump it. I plugged the drain hole to keep air from coming in the smoker there. I haven't generated a lot of juice in the bottom pan that didn't evaporate/ vaporize. I don't move my smoker.

This is the way it came. Maybe a plug would work. Remove the drip pan, plug the drain hole and then move it.

I used a Gen #1 like you have for 6 years, and I never had any grease get to that hole in the back.
If you cover the floor with foil, grease won't go down that drain.
If you're generating a lot of grease, just put a foil pan in to catch the grease.
Then you can plug that little pipe, and take the trough off of the smoker.
I never move my smoker, but if you do these things you'll be able to easier.

Been covering the drip pan with foil but been punching a hole in it so stuff can drain. Makes total sense to leave the foil solid and just clean that out when needed. Still going to plug the hole just in case. Greasy drippings getting into unsealed paver stones isn't something you want to try to clean.

Thanks!!!

I took that external drip pan off the day I got the MES. I've never had more than a few drops of grease on the bottom pan because I always put a drip tray under the meat and then, if the recipe calls for it, move the meat down into the drip tray and cover with foil towards the end of the smoke.

So, my recommendation is to remove that drip tray (mine just lifts off) and don't bother with it.

Mounting your MES30 to a furniture dolly will do wonders for you in order to move the smoker.

Found a super quick and cheap solution. For a couple buck$ picked up some rubber Ø5/8" chair leg tips at the local box store and they fit super perfect over the drain pipe.
