Hi! I purchased a MasterBuild mps 230 propane smoker. The first time I started the smoker I had loud pop and a burst of fire coming from underneath where the knob is. This happened the second time as well. Is this normal? Any suggestion? I don't want to feel like I'm going to die every time I want to smoke some meat. :)

Open the lower door. With the smoker valve off, slowly open the propane tank. Start it at a low flame setting on the knob. Quickly, without having your face in front of the door, press the red igniter button. It should start within a couple of presses. The may be air in the hose so it might take a try or two.

If you follow these instructions, you should have a normal start. There should NOT be flames coming from the bottom. If it continues, I bet the gas nozzle from the valve is not inserted into the burner tube. Flip the smoker on its top and look at the valve and tube.

The valve is in the middle of the picture. The “snout” should be inserted into the burner tube. The burner tube is stainless steel and has holes in it.

If it looks like it is assembled correctly, return it for a new one.
