Yesterday I received a PID I bought from the bay and wired it together with the ssr.
Then hooked it to my smoker.
I have added a lot of mass to my smoker base and the water pan is full of sand.
It took about an hour to get the smoker to 225 and it was on auto tune. It climbed to 234 then dropped to 224 then the PID started cycling the smoker and held the temp to about 4 degrees. After about ½ hour I put the PID into AT again and then it held the temps within 1 degree for over an hour.
The first thing I noticed was the difference between the PID temp and my Maverick temp.
Whenever the smoker element turned on full the Maverick would go crazy fast up compared to the PID. The PID is in tenths and you can see the rise and fall in temps as a pretty even move but the Maverick jumps at least 8 degrees higher difference between the PID during the heat up then when the heat stops the maverick comes down to the same temp as the PID. I can’t explain this and now I wonder if the spikes in temp before mods were just the Maverick over reacting. I will have to put this all in a box but I just had to try it out.
Today I wanted to try again and took pics of the PID working.
Started at ambient temp 57 in the greenhouse.
You can see the difference in temp rise between the two.
Here the temp diff started getting closer to each other. I changed the target temp to 180 to save time.
I put it in auto tune here.
Just finishing the tuning.
now it on its own about ten min, to tune
After a half hour then I unplugged it. Holds the temp great.
These are the two probes can't get much closer on the top rack.
Ribs are in the near future.
Thanks for looking. Stan
