Boy! That takes me back!

When I was a kid in the '40s and '50s, we had a vegetable man, Mr. Hodge, who came around every morning or every other morning. He had an old truck - probably a Ford Model A chassis but it might have been a Dodge. The truck was entirely open on all sides but had a roof over the top. It was packed with baskets of vegetables. I remember the tall skinny baskets strapped to his running boards that always had potatoes and yams. He carried the veggies and fruits that most Southern housewives used in their meals. We knew when he had arrived because he would ring a cow bell and wait for someone to appear or move on to his next block for sales.

I wish I had a photo but I don't think we could afford a camera in those days.

Looks GREAT and it might double as an overnight camper. Used to have one here but some idiot complained and they checked for health permits. Now he's gone and the lady that started the trouble also had to move. Good fresh veggies right to your door, what's to complain about.
