I know that we all miss opportunities but last Saturday I missed two on one day.

While trolling craigslist to find welding related stuff for our youngest son's shop I got a bit of tunnel vision.  A couple of days into the trawl I started searching terms like "smoker", "smokehouse" etc.

We live in between Syracuse and Rochester, NY so I started there and found a listing for a new, unused MES 30 for $75 on the Syracuse forum.  It took a moment to sink in but I was still fixated on metal working stuff so I decided to get back to it a bit later and kept going.  Next in the Rochester forum there was an older Cookshack smoker for $60.

Both had been listed the day before.

So...I ran an errand or two and stopped to see how things were at the local sportsmen's club and came home.

I followed up on both ads and they (no surprise here) had been sold that AM while I was slacking.

The moral of the story is, I guess, twofold.  For one, if you are interested in increasing the herd of BBQ related stuff you have craigsllist can be an interesting place to check out.  Of course the other lesson is to not hesitate when you see a good deal.  If you don't want it a BBQ buddy will.

I have a friend's Bradley on semi-permanent loan and it would have been interesting to line the three up and do a head to head to head comparison smoke or three.

My FIL decided to buy a new WSM 22.5 last weekend. Ordered it through Lowes. I found a used one on CL for 200 a day later. He ended up buying it that day. Said it was barely used, didn't have the heart to offer less money. Seller said his phone was ringing off the hook about it. Anyway, I saved him $200. Needless to say, I'm becoming his favorite child, in-law or not! The wife is disgusted...

Thanks.

It's a bunch easier than individual searches.

I did the same last year. Saw a new-in-the-box 30" MES on craigslist for $80 right near me. I didn't know exactly what it was at the time, so I did some research. By the next day when I decided I wanted it, it was gone. Hasn't been another one like it on there since.

As an update, I got a call last Saturday about the $60 Cookshack Smokette and was told it was still available.  I drove over and it is mint condition.  The seller stated he bought it from a guy who had bought it but wasn't using it and that he never going to used it.

Other than a light spatter of over spray on one side from the owner painting his '55 Chevy next to it the smoker is mint and doesn't appear to have been used other that curing it. There's no trace of any grease anywhere, not even under it around the drain.

So, it's home at the farm and I'll have to take it for a test drive soon.
