While stationed overseas, a young Marine received the kind of letter no soldier ever wants to open — a “Dear John” note from his girlfriend back home.
She wrote that she’d met someone new and wanted to end things. To twist the knife a little deeper, she asked him to kindly return the photo of her she had given him.
Instead of losing his temper or feeling defeated, the Marine decided to have a bit of fun. He went around the barracks, asking his buddies for any spare photos of women they no longer needed. By the time he was done, he had a stack of over two dozen pictures — all different faces, smiles, and poses.
He bundled them neatly together, slipped them into an envelope, and added a short note:
“I’m not sure which one is you. Please take your photo and send the rest back.”
The package made it home safely. And while his ex got her answer, the Marine walked away with something better — a legendary story and a well-earned grin.
