I have been using a "propeller" spice grinder but it keeps over heating and cutting out. A hear a burr grinder is better?? Not looking to spend a fortune but would to see what you all are using.

I just replaced mine with another blade or propeller grinder as the cost is way lower, but I understand that the burr grinder is much better for coffee, but the prices is 5X over a blade grinder.... Since I use mine for mostly making rubs and am not much of a coffee snob, I just stick with the cheaper blade grinder.

Burr grinders are much better for sure. I used one of these a long time. Worked good, just be careful cleaning it, comes apart easy, putting it back is a little tricky when its got beans a ground coffee all over...or it was just me. I would still have it but we switched to an espresso machine and it has a burr grinder attached.

If I'm making an espresso, I use a Fellow Opus Conical Burr Coffee Grinder. Its excellent.
For weekday-morning drip coffee, I usually just buy preground beans.

I've had a burr grinder for probably 15 or more years and love it. It's a Baratza Encore which is their entry level burr grinder. They say it will do an espresso grind, but I've not tried that. I just grind beans for my Bunn maker.

Baratza Encore here as well for 6 or 7 years. Very happy with it.

Cafe Grinders :
I had a nice Braun ,it finally reached a point, not able to grind, just a fine powder.
But it was over 20 yrs old !
I just took a look at a few reviews.
Cruise Arts is @ $ 70, and OXO is @ $ 110. It showed up on a few reviews as Good !
IMO: Go for the OXO , seems to offer more for only a few bucks more!?
The Scale goes crazy above $200 after that, Seems to be a huge waste of $ ?
PS: You got me enabled to get another Cafe Grinder !?
DAMN YOU! LOL !

In no way a coffee snob, but I did go back to grinding my own beans about a year or so back. I bought this OXO and love it. Kinda large, but not too noisy and I get a good consistent grind. It's a Benjamin, but hey.. there's some out there with prices that shock me.

How does one deal with the static electricity that sends the ground coffee flying out and leaves a 2’ diameter of grounds on the counter?

I have a Cuisinart Burr grinder.....JUNK!!! It will not grind at the fine setting. No matter what you choose it is a very course grind. It would overheat after grinding a 1/2 pound of beans. After multiple calls and emails to the manufacturer. They send me an email with an attachment on how to clean it. Took it apart-clean inside. Tried again..course grind only. They emailed me an said they were sending a replacement. Kinda wonder if it is going to work. Had to resort to my old Hamilton Beach grinder....small, but it grinds proper and doesn't overheat.

I wet my hand a bit and then shake it into the coffee holder/hopper right before adding beans. Just 4-5 drops of tap water is all it takes to provide a conductive path from frictinoally-charged coffee particle to the grinder walls and your grounded hand.

At least this works with blade grinders whose "propeller" atomizes/aerosolizes the water drops.
I don't have much experience with burr grinders.

I bought the OXO when I started grinding for cold brew. Its coarse grind setting works great. If/when it ever dies I'll probably switch to the Baratza Encore just for the parts availability. You could probably build your own from their parts list.

Doing it wrong if that happens .

I got this 6 yr ago

Bodum 10903-01US Bistro Electric Burr Coffee Grinder

About $100 CDN

I noticed that the beans were taking a long longer to grind that they had previously. Burr was 5 yr old at the time and I read that that's about the normal lifespan till they become 'less efficient'.

Got a replacement burr and....all is back to normal. Only time I get static cling is if I'm using less-than-dark roast beans.

Dark roast--little to no static cling
Med roast--quite a bit but it sticks to the glass container and i just use a dedicated pastry brush to empty it into my french press.

I have the OXO grinder for larger quantities than single cup brews. But most of the time I make my coffee one cup at a time. For that I've been using a 1Zpresso K Ultra hand grinder. My morning coffee has become a ritual.
