Lets talk burger patty makers

Two pieces of wax paper and a dinner plate. Take a baseball sized round of ground beef. Place it on top of one of the sheets of wax paper. Cover the round with the other sheet. Then using two hands press down evenly with the dinner plate. Repeat using the same paper and dish for additional burgers. Simple with minimal clean-up. Added bonus - you can make any size burger you want.

If you're just busting up a pound or two for burgers that night that's the way to go. Rethinking the need to even own a pattie maker as it's just the two of us. This what my mother used to do, amazing it took your post for the light bulb to go off!

Actually just made 4 burgers except I used my pounder to flatten the beef and the slightly off round shapes don't even bother me slightly. Plus it's a lot easier to do when working one-handed!

Always been hand forming. Looked at many burger presses Your pick is promising.
...
Ideally, I would like a cooked burger to fill the bun or better.
I get it
"Where's the beef!"
You either need a bigger patty or a smaller bun?

I have this piece of junk and it is utterly worthless.

Two pieces of wax paper and one hit with the pounder and done. With just the two of us I'm not even going to bother spending a dime on anything other than a roll of wax paper from the DG down at the bottom of the street for a $1 at this point.

I am very late here also, but someone might read this for later. I don't remember where I got it, it was at a restaurant supply but I have a 5" SS ring about 3/4 inch tall that is similar to a cookie cutter. I just put it on a cookie sheet and fill mashing a little to the height I want, lift the ring and make another beside it. I scoop them off with a spachala onto the grill for pretty consistent burgers. Hope OP found something that worked for you.

Old restaurant trick....

We used lids off of big 1 gallon condiment jars.
The salad plates at our old family restaurant were perfectly sized for burgers. They had a good size ring on the bottom of the plate, you'd drop a ball of meat down on one plate and use another and the ring on the bottom of the plates would keep from over squishing. I wish I still had a few.

Last yr I went down the burger press rabbit hole. I bought like 4 different models. None of them made the cut.
I still have the one I liked best, which happened to be the cheapest, I use it on occasion, but more time than not, I just hand form them.
