Bearcarver introduced me to Lea & Perrin steak sauce in 2018. Fortunately I bought several bottles from stores in my area when it was discontinued. I'm on my last bottle now and wondered if anyone had found a steak sauce that tastes similar. Or has a recipe to make something similar.

Did some googling and did not readily find a knock off recipe. I did find several reddit threads recommending London Pub Steak Sauce as a close alternative.

Thank you. I guess I'll br trying my hand at making my own recipe.

Not a huge steak sauce person, but I keep a bottle of pickapeppa nearby at all times. I love that stuff. It's something to consider trying.

It's been a long time since I tried that. I thought is was a fancier A1 type sauce if I remember. Have you tried Country Bob's All Purpose?

I don't like it on a steak but I enjoy it on a good burger sometimes. I also used to love Heinz 57 on a burger.

I found this on another forum. Based on the reply from their marketing folks you should be able to replicate it with a combo of ketchup and original Worcestershire with some added garlic and onion. From L&P marketing team - "checked with their marketing folks and was told that "The new Lea & Perrins Thick Classic was inspired by the original Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce, which is made using a 170-year old recipe. By blending the original Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce with ingredients such as tomato puree made from tomatoes grown from Heinz Seeds, roasted garlic and onion, we’ve achieved the thick texture and bold, yet balanced flavor, which makes the new Lea & Perrins Thick Classic perfect for dipping and topping.". Another source also says that the thick was relabeled to steak sauce as well.

I dont use steak sauces in or on anything, but I have found, especially when trying to avoid real sugar, that once you have perfected your own sauce, you have it for life...as long as the ingredients for it are still available!

I started making my own BBQ sauces etc. when I went low carb and still use those recipes today even though we are allowing more carbs. I still make my own ketchup too. As good or better than most real sugar ketchup's. I can taste the "artificial" in every store bought ketchup and BBQ sauce I have ever bought.

There are a couple recipes on this page for steak sauce. The first one is probbaly the closest to what you are looking for. I would immediately adapt stuff like the shallot to a regular onion (what is the obsession with TV chefs and shallots? I've never noticed THAT big of a difference in flavor) and I would use whatever pepper was available. I would also develop a weight measurement for them. Drives me nuts when a recipe that could be as critical for precision as this lists ingredients like "1 shallot, 1 pepper".

Don't know how it compares as I've never had Lea & Perrins , but this is good stuff . Local (ish ) restaurant in St. Louis area . I can get it off the shelf , but Amazon has started selling it .
NOT A-1 type .

Not sure if you have a Kroger nearby but they have two of their own branded steak sauces. Inexpensive enough to give them a try at least. Now I wanna buy one...but cant figure out what I would use it for. I would never put steak sauce on a good steak...a bad steak for sure, but I haven't made or had one of those in years! Prefer beef hamburgers unadulterated by those kinds of sauces as well.

1883 Sauce
Universal sauce

They also carry Texas Roadhouse. No idea, never tasted them.

I have never ever put steak sauce on a good steak, I chose instead to savor the natural juices and flavor. But everyone is different. I do however use Lea & Perrins Worcestershire sauce when making the marinade for my beef jerky. I might suggest starting there and adding some BBQ sauce, some Dijon Mustard and spices that you like.

I use it as a binder for my smoked brisket. A good steak needs nothing but a little salt.

THAT WAS THAT THICK SAUCE right? Havent seen it in a while here in TX

To echo others, I put no sauce on a good steak. I season my steaks with nothing but salt and pepper. To be exact, sea salt and coarse black pepper. However, my wife love to use Heinz 57 on a lot of things, but not steak. I don't mind a pat of smoked butter on my steak, though.
