All of the burger presses are around 4 1/2 inch. By the time the meat shrinks the burger is smaller than most buns. Some where on the Forums here someone suggested a making one out of PVC pipe. I bought a 5" PVC coupler for $15, a handle for $11, and I found a scrap piece of Corian ( I think) for $2.

I tried 95% lean, used 6.5-7oz of Hamburger. The burgers cooked down to just over 4 1/2 in size. The hamburger press needs little bit of force to press evenly. but worked great. I found some 6" burger papers on amazon to work between the burgers.

Very useful project. I need to keep this in mind. Hate those small burgers too.

I'll buy one, now get to work!

You can significantly reduce the burger shrinkage and puffing by putting a small dimple in the center of the burger with your thumb.

But a PVC burger press with some scrap stone? Brilliant.
