It shouldn't do that, but the paint on my firebox is slowly disappearing and I just spray it with Pam so it won't rust.

The other option would be to contact Lang & see what they say about it.

Thanks I'm going to call them on Monday. Brand new smoker shouldn't have an issue like this. I haven't seen any other Lang owners having a problem.

Probably had a little bit of the manufacturing oil coating on the steel left over. This would prevent the paint from bonding.  Whoever at Lang prepped it for paint did not hit that spot well with solvent wipe down to get any residual coating off.

Short of shipping it back, you are going to have to address it locally.  A little wire brushing, light sanding to blend the edges of the paint and high temp paint to match should fix it.  I would contact them and also document with an email.  If I were Lang, I would foot the bill for a local shop to do the work instead of putting that burden on you since it's too far to return the smoker to them. If it continues in other areas, then you have a more serious problem and they should pick up the tab for shipping it back and swapping out.  It's probably an isolated incident, but document just in case.  Lang will likely make good on this.

Thanks for the info everything you said makes sense. I bought from them so I wouldn't have to deal with these exact types of issues. Disappointing.

I've owned a Lang and now have a Shirley. No surprise, the firebox takes the biggest beating. Rustoleum 1200 degree engine block paint works great. You always want to spray in a swirling pattern in and around the area. It makes the defect way less obvious.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm going to call them today. On a brand new smoker I don't think I should have to worry about this yet. Hopefully they do right by me.

I think Rustoleum also makes a 2000 degree paint and I've gone with that. Even though it's annoying, most fireboxes will eventually peel and rust. Thus, as long as you're consistent with brand of paint , you should be fine.

I own a Lang 36 and i rub mineral oil on the firebox once a month and never had any chipping/peeling. rub it on while its cool and let it dry when you heat it up it will protect you paint.

Hope this helps,
