I was planning on doing a big cook here, but it looks like a washout. waiting until tomorrow night before i call it off though.

Some friends and I went to the derby in the late 70s. What a great time. If you ever get a chance you should go. You dont have to be a horse fan to enjoy it.

Got the bourbon today and will pick the mint Sat. afternoon. It is a ritual that I look after my 86 year old mother for the run. Do the same for the rest of the Triple Crown. Black eyed Susans for Baltimore and whatever they have reinvented for the Belmont. A great day for acting like a nut!

This is what there calling for weather wise for Saturday in Louisville

I remember traveling a few years back when Smarty Jones was running for the crown. I was in the middle of nowhere on the interstate and stopped at a hotel to try and watch the race. They told me the lounge had a TV and they may turn it on for me. I walked in and it looked like a scene out of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. There was one person behind the bar, one guy sitting at the bar, and it was dimly lit and hazy. I thought it was going to be the last race I watch.

People were great though. Turned on the race for me and even though they had no idea who was who they were into it and cheering for him.

Oh well... Maybe this year.

I've only went to the Derby once, usually hit up some Derby parties instead. But this year will be the first year in about 9 years that I will miss the Oaks. We usually end up taking about 20 or so of us and head to the infield at Churchill for the day. plunk a few dollars down and have a few drinks and always a good time. I ended up having to work second shift for Friday and Saturday and on call for third shift Saturday night. No chance what-so-ever to enjoy the weekend. Anyway, maybe next year. For anyone who isnt familiar with the Oaks its the races that run the day prior to the Derby.
