Haven't been on in a while and have relocated from East Texas to Brunswick GA. I have always used a stick burner and my last was a Bell Fab from Craig and it's the best stick burner I have ever used. I lived on 30 plus acres and had access to white oak, red oak and pecan so wood wasn't a problem. Relocated for grand daughter and just ordered a ReqTec Flagship 1100. Never used a pellet smoker and hope I can cook as well as I did on a stick burner but now live in a suburban area without unlimited access to wood. Any inputs, suggestions, or ideas will be appreciated, because I am a novice with a pellet grill. Thanks in advance for any information.

Congrats on the new Rec Tec Michael! It's been several years ago, but I used to own one of the original RT 680s. They're nice grills! Very well built and easy to use. I'm pretty sure one of my sons owns that Flagship 1100 model, and he loves it!

Looking forward to seeing some cook threads from your new toy! :emoji_thumbsup:

Love my brisket on a stick burner but will not miss the 18 hours if I can get a good cook on a pellet.

The knock on pellet cookers (if there is one) has usually been the idea that they don't produce as much smoke flavor as wood or charcoal pits. I think the technology is better now than when I owned mine, and the newer ones make more smoke. I've eaten pork loin that my son cooked on his, and it was delicious!

And you can't beat the convenience of pushing a button and/or turning a knob...and presto - you have a fire!

Sorry to hear ya gave up the stick burner... FYI ... Your really close to the Pecan groves in Ga. for pecan supply... Oak is plentiful as well... I'm sure there would be some Hickory close by...

Just saying ...

Welcome neighbor and plenty of pecan and oak still on the ground around here.
I'm sure you'll enjoy the pellet pooper.

I know Craig real well after having a custom stick burner built. If wood is that plentiful guess I may need to have another stick burner built and drive back to Tulsa and pick it up. Love the smoke on a stick burner and may just have to have another built. I also cook on a Weber 26 Inch Kettle.

Nice smoker purchase! Pellet grills are awesome! You will find it very easy. Rec Teq has lots of info on their site.

I cover my drip pan with foil. Clean the smoker after three longer cooks or equivalent ish. I run Lumberjack Competition blend for everything. Ive had my RT 700 for over a decade and its run like new every time. I recently added The Grease Box recently - very nice upgrade-highly recommend.

If you have question fire away!

Congrats on the new Smoker.
You'll love putting a brisket on at night and going to sleep.
Foil on the drip tray is a preference.
I'm with sandyut sandyut , I foil mine.
Easier to roll it up and throw it away, instead of scraping grease off the tray IMO.

If you don't have all ready, you need remote thermometers.
Very handy to wake you up if you forgot to put pellets in the hopper. :emoji_laughing:

You will enjoy the convenience of the pellet pooper. I use mine more than the stick burner. If you want more smoke flavor can add a pellet tube. Make sure to regularly clean it out to avoid a fire. I like the lumber jack pellets. My fav is the apple but also use the cherry blend and competition. Just like the stick burner, have to learn its nuances and hot spots.
