Hi, folks.

This seems like a mighty friendly forum.  I live in SE Utah, and just bought a Masterbuilt 30 electric smoker with wedding gift money.  My husband and I are excited to start smoking EVERYTHING.  :)

I'm sure I'll be needing lots of advice and guidance, as I've never smoked any kind of meat before.

Katie

You've come to the right place Katie. Lots of good folks and good advice here. Here's some for you right off the bat..... a geeat gadget to get for the mes 30 is a maverick digital therm to verify both the meat temp and the cooking temp. Sometimes themes controllers are a bit off and I don't want you to get discouraged when things are under or over cooked because you thought you were cooking at a certain temp but were 30 degeeesoff. A nice boston butt for pulled or sliced pork is a great place to start as they are pretty easy, very forgiving, and delicious. Best of luck and welcome.

Thanks for that, geerock.  I hadn't thought about a remote-read thermometer, but that's a great suggestion!

Katie

I own the mes 40 and one fault is the controller accuracy, at least on mine. Nothing wrong with the remote monitoring either if you want a real set and forget.

Wow Katie, ya'll live in a beautiful part of the country.  Last year my wife and I spent three weeks ridding our motorcycle all over SE Utah.  Loved it.  I'm ready to go back.

You will love the MES.  I am new to it by just a few months but I bet I have over 100 hours on it.  No big long smokes yet but I'm waiting for the chance if I can just get my schedule to work with me.

Thanks, Bones!  I have to wait for a day off to season it, but then...hoping to smoke everything in sight!  :)

Yes, SE Utah is gorgeous.  Our tourist season is winding down for the winter right now, but the weather is still gorgeous, and all the leaves are turning!
