Just figured out an auxiliary use for pulled pork.

Well Skidmark hurt his leg about a week or so ago on our wooden floors. So the vet gave us some pain-killers to help ease his pain. After a while he started wising up to the normal modes of getting him to take his medicine(american cheese, peanut butter, etc etc) and sticking it in his mouth while rubbing his chin/throat was a battle I didn't always win. Then I remembered I took out a package of PP from the freezer for my lunch at work the other day. So I decided to give it a try. I buried the pill in a piece of pork and put it and a couple of other non-pill stuffed pork bits into his bowl along with his dog food and presto-chango pill and food disappeared in no time at all. This alone was an amazing feat as he normally lollygags when it comes to eating his dog food. It's been working for a few days now. Finger crossed.

Yep, it's definitely a battle to get your pets to take a pill.
Especially cats!!
Al

You made me LOL Al! So true. My wife once had a cat that could magically make a clean pill reappear in her food dish no matter how we tried to disguise it. Shoving it down her throat was the only way we could get that cat to take her medicine.

Roxy can find a miniscule pill in anything and leave it shint and clean in her dish. Her meds just get "manually" inserted down her throat. But.... you couldn't pay me enough to stick my finger in our cat's mouth--probably pull back a stump. LOL

Always have the same problem with our buddies taking meds ! They do get wise to the antics , lol.
Glad to hear you figured Skid-Mark out !!

Cheers , Greg

Hope he's better soon. My girl's got long legs and seemed to hurt herself a few times in a row. The peanut butter bread balls and meat chucks with pill stuffed in worked good for getting her to take meds. There's nothing sadder than watching them limp around. :( I actually have to switch up her dog food between two or three brands. Unlike the cats, she seems to get tired of the same thing.

He's off his meds now and doing fine, but still hesitant when it comes to his treats and food. Everything that he doesn't see come straight out of the package goes through a rigorous sniffing and visual inspection.

Just a little hint, if you put the pill in your dogs mouth then immediately squirt a little water in with a 10cc syringe it triggers the dogs response to swallow. Sometimes it works on cats too but I prefer to give them the .22 type pill, much cheaper.
