Last night, I bought a MES analog 30" smoker to try my hand at smoking a brisket. I am an absolute noob to smoking meats, so I thought I'd come here to learn more about smoking and, in particular, the unit itself. I have to admit that I'm a bit disappointed after reading the issues that some of these have, from holding temperature to not generating smoke... not exactly what I wanted to read! I didn't expect to get a professional level smoker for the $100 I paid for it, but I was at least hoping for it to be functional enough to learn the process. I have yet to open the box, so should I save myself the hassle and return it for the digital? Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions.

I would return it for two reasons. One, the 30" is too small for whole briskets. And two, the 40" digital is one sale for black friday at a few stores for $200 which is a great deal.
