Hello everyone, My father in law just gave me a Brinkman Electric smoker. It came with some lava rocks and no temp gauge.

I was reading around the forum a bit and found out it cooks at around 240 (or should at least) which is cool. my question is; do I need to have the lavarocks in the coil.s or should I just wrap some wood blocks up in foil and place them on the coils or both?

I am planning on doing a 10 pound shoulder this weekend and would like to try it out. I normally use a gas grill and offset the heat with wrapped up chips. so this new toy is extremely foreign to me. Any help is appreciated thanks.

You did not indicate if the smoker was new or not.  Just in case you did not get a manual with it, you can do a search at the following link for the manual you need.  That should answer your questions.  I hope!

I did not receive a manual. I did look for one, and all that came up was assembly only really. I will check your link for sure thanks.

Save the link.  It is good for lots of manuals on a variety of items.  If the first one doesn't help, maybe this one will.  Good luck!
