Had some great eats in my first and only trip to Philly a while ago. Two places on my bucket list were Morimoto and Johns Roast Pork. While Morimoto was awesome, it was the roast pork sandwich I kept craving. Decided to just make my own. Around New Years bone in pork loin roasts are super cheap and they are one of my favorite meals. This year I bought 4 and froze 3 just for this sandwich. Roasted it as usual. Cut the meat off the bones and used the bones to make Au Ju

put the loin meat and tenderloin in the fridge overnight and sliced it paper thin the next morning. Made some baby broccoli instead of rapini with a boatload of garlic and chili flakes. Used Fantina(aged Fontina I think) and Fontina instead of sharp provolone, garlic mayo and some crusty rolls from a really good Italian deli near me Alescis. Put the rolls with cheese in the oven to melt. Gave the thinly sliced pork a Hot Tub in the pork jus. Topped with broccoli and more cheese and back in the oven for a few. While not Johns, it was pretty damn close and certainly satisfies the craving. Have done with garlic spinich too and rapini. I like it best with the baby broccoli, my son likes it best with the spinich. Anyway, just wanted to share cause it is a pretty inexpensive but really tasty sammy.

Thanks for sharing. Those look great and now in my list of things to do with pork loin.

I wish I would've known about this place a few months ago, my woman and me were in Philly not too long ago, is it in south Philly? That's where we spent most of our time, in the old Dego neighborhoods, it was AWESOME!!!!

If it wasn't so far away, I'd be there monthly, if not weekly!!!
I LOVE SOUTH PHILLY!!!🤌🤌🇮🇹🤌😜

Actually just had to pick up some equipment and I was only there for 1 day. Stayed in downtown and John's wasn't far. Near the river. I don't know Philly very well but I think that's considered north???? Pretty cool to see Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell
Will definitely go back with the wife and stay a whle.

Hasn't heard of the restaurant but man those look and sound great
Restaurant? LOL. More like a shack. Order at the window and eat at picnic tables. Definitely one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. And now I know so easy to make it at home. Key is to slice that meat paper thin and use those bones to make a super rich pork broth. A good crusty sesame seed roll makes it really authentic.
