Is that sitting on steel joists, I tried to blow up the picture .
That's a sub floor of 10" 16 gauge SJ studs . 16 O.C. Black iron bridging , and 6 " 16 gauge stud supports on piers through the middle .

The perimeter sits on blocks and 4x4's .

what did you use on the interior walls.
Most of it is drywall . The wood is reclaimed old growth red oak from a barn tear down .
There's a small propane heater on that wall , that keeps the place around 72 degrees .

Still not sure about just knocking it down or trying to build with what is there .
Knock it down . You'll never get all the sin out of that place , and I know my wife would have never felt comfortable in a re-do .
Call the local fire Department ( red light or blue ) and find out if they would be interested in a controlled burn , and what cost would be . OJT for a new guy , or just practice in general .

Very nice , I have never seen the steel joist work before. Mostly warehouses on slabs, then the interior office builds with the steel studs. Wood added around doors and windows . For mezzanines we would use steel beams , then the same steel framing .

I noticed the small heater, thought maybe you used wood on all the walls if not heated all year long.

yes Mona and I talked last night about what we want, and she like you said the same thing. We would always be wondering about the mould and smell . We would blame everything on the old saved parts ( walls etc ).

Plus trying to work around the old two building that they built as one. And the 2 slabs that I bet are off just a bit from each other .

We are ( me ) knocking it down and build on the slab all new. I will probably build a 2 x 6 floor on top of slab so I can change where I want to lay out the new floor plan. And run all the plumbing and extra wire for the kitchen and bath. and still use what is coming up through the slab. Well and septic drain.

Will be fun to draw it up, then build all new. For us to enjoy .

As for the Fire Dept. burn, I was in the Vol fire for a few years. They don't do that anymore , which is weird as it was great training on real fires as apposed to fires at the training school.

Still wondering what I will use on the interior walls, there will be min heat I think during the winter months while we are not there ( still pondering that).
So I do not want gyproc, in case I decide to shut down the power while away in the damp winter months.
