I just posted some smoked salmon shots and they're tiny. I see some of
you insert them into your posts that are much larger. How do you get the larger shots inserted instead of attached to your post?

I even went so far as to Photoshop them first, shrink them to the allowable size and it still comes out too small.

I use photobucket to host my images. Once uploaded to your album, just use the fourth link they provide. Then you just have to paste URL to your post here. Remember to look at the options settings before upload and see what the setting is. Anywhere from 800 x 600 or lower should be small enough to not cause a problem with HUGE photos.
If you use one of the other links, you have to use this
insertimage.gif
then paste the URL between the ] [ center brackets. using the 4th link already has the brackets included.

[url=http://www.photobucket.com]http://www.photobucket.com[/url]

Upload your pics to www.photobucket.com or www.imageshack.us then resize for forums or I believe 400 x 600 images. Click on the link for forums and copy it. Paste it directly into your message, when you hit submit it should show the picture.

Use the test area and play around til you find the size you like

I'm not very good with computers..........
I use photobucket to edit my pictures to "web site" size.
Then I click on the little postcard looking icon here when I make a new post...and insert the url from photobucket.
That puts the image right in my post instead of as an attachment.

Like this...

Bet I made that as clear as mud!

What size are you making them in ps? I use 800x533 and it creates the small thumbnail that when clicked opens to a decent size image. Just keep it under 95 kb

640x480 for horizontal (or 480x640 portrait) is a very good size for internet posting on forums.

download this free software www.irfanview.com and use it to rotate and resize your original image BEFORE you upload it to Photobucket or other Hosting services. Saves a lot of bandwidth and time loading, etc. Be sure to "save-as" to a different file name to keep your original picture file un-changed. Irfanview is kind to your jpg files, operating in a "loss-less" fashion for many of it's edits, such as rotations.

be aware that digital cameras produce image files at various aspect ratios, so when you are selecting the size, select 640 on the long side, and let the software determine the short side number. keep "preserve aspect ratio" checked so the it will do this for you. if you don't your image may look scrunched in one way or the other.

select a jpg "quality" setting that gets you a file about 150K in size. They all vary somewhat in size, but 150K will look good on your PC monitors, and won't take a ton of time to load.

wrap the URL to your photo file with the IMG tags as others have suggested for a nice picture in your post.

How do I know, I participate in a LOT of Photography Forums, and most all of them either use this vBulletin forum software, or something similiar.

Also, if you don't mind paying a small fee per year for a good hosting service, www.pbase.com or www.smugmug.com are very good, and you or your relatives can order prints of your digital images.

Merry Christmas
