Memorial Day weekend is a time set aside to commemorate and remember those who have fought and died defending our freedom. Every freedom we have no matter how small or taken for granted is preserved by these men and women and for that we thank you all.

I personally have an active duty brother who has fought for us on several fronts. Thank you Mike!

This memorial day I wanted to set aside a time to remember one of our own from the SMF community.

My uncle Marty Catka went home to be with the Lord last week. He was a contributing member to these forums and a great man.

Marty left behind a loving wife and two amazing daughters along with several sisters, brother, nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

It was through this forum that I was able to reconnect with Uncle Marty after almost a decade. After I joined the site and did a search I discovered him here. We exchanged a couple of messages and then a couple of emails and instantly I felt reunited with a side of my family, half way across the country, that otherwise I felt may have been lost to me.

I miss you Uncle. Through tears and in your memory I dedicate this post and all future smoking to you.

Please join me in keeping your thoughts and prayers focused on those he left behind, especially those closest to him.

and may "the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus" Phil 4:7

I'm sorry to hear of Marty's passing and my thoughts and prayers go out to his whole family

I'm grateful to all Great Americans who served this country's military and protected my way of life.

It is sad to hear of the passing of loved ones. Your sorrow is shared by all here, I'm sure.

Today is the 118th anniversary of my dad's birth ('94). His passing was 48 years ago ('64), but I miss him every day!
