I figured I should give a follow up since I posted it in the open forum (prostate biopsy)

I know I am new to the forum, but would like to express my solidarity and emphaty towards the situation that you are experiencing. My mom was diagnosed with an agressive lung tumor in 2018 and we closed ranks around her and put up the fight. Fortunately, after a couple of years of struggle She was able to beat the diagnosis and today enjoys good health!

Wish you the best!

Albert
Thank you, Albert!
Given that mine was caught early, in all likelihood, it can be cured.

DougE DougE , I know you and I don’t chat much or have much conversation. A lot of folks here, threads non stop and all… I get it. But let me say, you got this! Kick its ass and I know you will! You have support brother… let me know if you need anything… always here for a brother!
Thank you, bro!

I think I got this. Right now, it's weighing all treatment options and doing research so that I can make an informed choice as to how to proceed.

I saw the radiation doc this afternoon. I'm sort of in a gray area where I could just do active monitoring for now, but if my cancer progresses to the next stage (it may never, but nobody can say for sure it won't), I'd be into needing radiation plus hormone therapy. The doc recommends treating it with SBRT now, rather than waiting and watching for it to get to the next stage. I have a follow-up in 6 weeks so I will decide which way to go in that time. I think I will do the radiation now rather than watching and waiting.

DougE DougE pretty sure you got everyone here on your side and got your back. Just please don't be too tough to ask if you need something. We got you.
Prayers, mainly. My radiation doc is confident that this treatment will kill it.

Also a reminder to all you gents, once you hit 40 or 50, get your PSA checked as part of your yearly blood panels. It's the surest way to catch prostate cancer early.

Doug, Ive been through this same situation. My PSA was elevated during my annual exam. Doc recommenced I see a Urologist. He said we could wait and blood re-test or find out and do a biopsy. I was diagnosed with a slow growing prostate cancer. Urologist want to do the radical removal . I weighed all my options and chose beam radiation, 42 treatments over 8 1/2 weeks.
I am so glad it got caught early, that was 8 years ago.

My prayers go out to you for peace and wisdom during your decision process. If you need to talk please send me a PM and we can get together on the phone.

God Bless
Tom aka RG

My urologist also wanted to do removal, I said, "Let's talk about other options". He referred me to a radiation doc, who I saw today. He was great in that I wasn't rushed through. He took plenty of time to go over my options and answer any questions I had. His recommendation is a 5 treatment high dose SBRT radiation. I tend to agree given all the research I have done on prostate cancer treatment options.

Much appreciated, Tom. I may just take you up on that.

My Gleason score is presently 7 (3+4) 30% of the cancer cells are level 4. If it progresses to the next level (4+3) radiation and hormone treatment comes into play, which is why my doc recommends treating rather than watching and waiting. His opinion is pretty much in line with all the research I have done since being diagnosed.

Seems like you're on the right path with a great Dr. So glad to hear your prognosis and glad it was detected early.
My dad died on pancreatic and liver cancer. Lasted 5 months after diagnosed at 62. I have already outlived him.
Lost 4 of his brothers to the C. My mother is a survivor.
I have clients file claims almost weekly so have a constant reminder.
Prayers for you Doug and your Dr.
Stay positive and reminder everyone here is behind you.

Keith
