decided a week ago to do pulled pork for my family. christmas eve...pulled pork sammies...that will be great! i brine my butts 2 days in advance and the rub and set overnight. so i thawed out the butts, brined the butts and yesterday when i appied the rub is when i really found out what i was getting into.

the outside temp when i started the fire

    the backyard

the butts, ready for the smoke

me finally checking the weather report

yea...and wind gusts up to 50 mph

    i am a 'tard.

i'll post more later. gotta REALLY watch that fire.

after posting and tending fire glanced at the weather channel and it is now 19 outside, 23 mph wind, with wind chill feels like 1. damn you fools for motivating me to do a cold weather smoke.

You had better get that thing in the smoker before it freezes again. No it looks like your off to a wonderful start so I'll check back later.

This is what seperates the grillers from the smokers. I just east of you in alabama and am setting up in my shop! I think tard is a quality when it comes to mens pursuit of manness.

Hey, hold my beer and watch this! Where's that lighter?

Hang in there it will come out ok. I smoke all the time in below zero temps but you have quite a bit of wind to deal with. Best of luck to you.

Cold I can handle, wind not so much. My smoker doesn't seem to mind so much ;)

BTW my wife puts me in the same category!

HA! the wife got up, poured herself some coffee, looked outside, looked at the weather report, shook her head at me, poured her coffee out, and went back to bed.

she tells me things in very subtle ways.

carpetride: that is a fine lookin pit you got there. registered? what bloodlines?
    here's my smokin' buddy

he's got Jimmy Boots in him. he's got a lot of old time pit champs and aces in his blood.
best dog i've ever know (i understand i'm a little bias).

    weather up date:

    temp: 18
wind: 30mph (gusts up to 48mph)
    wind chill: -1

    butts after turn

neighbor across the alley just got home from his night shift and smelled the que. that prompted him to peek over the fence and ask me, "are you a 'tard?" i did not answer.

We live out in the country and someone dropped her off last New Years eve. I guess that was someone's New Years resolution. My daughter immediately named her Princess and my wife fed her and they both asked if I thought she would stay [IMG].

She has been a wonderful dog, house broke, fixed, and minded on a leash when we got her. Vet thought she was 2 at that time and friendly to boot. The first Pit we have ever had, she does play a little rougher than all the rest of the puppies though! Wife says she patrols the house and yard when I'm not home...that suites me real well. Her jaws should be enough to spook most people off.

    good lookin' dog!

i've had mine from day one (he is 8 yrs now) and he is super with the nieces and nephews. gets along with other dogs (females of the same size and/or any sex smaller than him). great guard dog and he loves to sit right by the smoker and get "bathed" in the essence.

i really don't think i will have any other breed after him. the pits that have fighting dog in them are really the best ones. the fighting dogs were bred for fighting ability and non-human aggression. he is a wonderful ambassador for his breed.

Hang in there, up here in Illinois it's not unusual for me to smoke in -20 degree weather and sometimes even colder. Just don't wear shorts out there for to long a time.....[IMG]

    the sammie vinegar sauce

Was worried about cold freezing rain here today, held off so far. Ribs today then brisket on Sat. Like most things I really don't like the weather to decide what I will do.
    [IMG] For stayin with it.
