Used ta buy all my ribs at walmart, they carried Smithfield spares, an excellent rib! Price was 1.89 a pound, tyson ribs er tough, very little meat an 2.44 a pound!

Well, in walmarts infinite wisdom they have decided to quit carryin the smithfields. In the past I've had a good workin relationship with the meat manager, well they got a new one a them to. She ain't nothin but a button pusher, not interested in workin with nobody but the company.

Sooooo, I wen't rib shoppin yesterday, spent a good deal a time talkin with meat managers. Hy-Vee's meat manager has 38 years of experience an wan'ts ta work with us in the worst way! He is offerin up Bob Evans trimmed ta St. Louis style ribs by the case. Said the price will varry from time ta time, but the average range will be 1.29 ta 1.89 a pound an ifin he gonna order large quantities he would sell em ta me fer .99 a pound! Plus, I can order monday, wednesday er friday an have em on his truck in two days! He will also order year round! We talked meat an smokin fer quite awhile, he wan'ts ta get a smoker fer himself, sooooo, ya just never know, we could get ta be awfull good friends in the future!

Walmart is loosin sight a the fact the customer puts the money in the bank fer em. Ol Sam Walton gotta be spinnin in his grave!

Oh, we got an Armour's packin plant right here in town an they ain't the least bit interested in doin business with anybody!

Gonna order a case of Bob Evan's ribs next week an see how they smoke up. Hope there good, meat manager says they are a decent rib so we shall see.

I'm with ya on that one, Travcoman. Let your dollars speak. The only power we have as individuals and consumers is where we choose to spend our money. Good deal to you, and hat's off to that great manager!

Sounds like you found a better place to get your ribs, and probably better quality anyway. Thats a really good price for st.louis cut. Can't find them here I buy spares and cut them myself. You'll save time and money. I found a butcher shop that has great prices on there meat. I can get spares for 1.58 a #. Not quite as good as your new find but still decent.

The new Walmart ribs probably come from China anyway!

I'm glad that Walmart stopped carrying them, otherwise you might never have xome across such a great sounding place with such nice prices.
Hope the ribs are every bit as good as the guy claims, but with so much experience under his belt I would figure he knows his meat.

Like everything else they carry, I'd be lookin' for the ribs to have lead, gluten and what ever else the Chineese have tried to poison us with, sometimes with horrible results. Spend your hard earned money wisely. Just say NO to Walmart!

You can also tell your new found friend that WalMart carries some good smokers that are made right here in the good ole USA!! Got mine shipped to the store in my town for free. 30 inch MES made in Georgia. You can look that up on a map it is actually a part of the USA. 180 Bucks! I agree though their meat dept. suckks.

Actually bubba, the selection round here sucks! Ya ever use the Bob Evans one's?

I hear good an bad on em, don't figure a feller with 38 years experience would send me down the wrong path, but, ya just really never know.

That blows me away!
You live in the pork capitol of the world.

Never tried the Bob evans but have never heard anything good about them.
Time to find a meat spe******t!

sam's in Ames is AWSOME, they will beet anyones prices buy 10cents, and they dont have any enhanced meat. We also got W-G market, they whole sale meat from a farmers co-op up by Ft.Dodge, and the have good meat also. Our hy-Vee is so high on meat it scares me,Fareway ain't much better
