New to meat smoking.  I just got a Brinkmann vertical two-door charcoal unit. So far, I'm having trouble getting it very hot, but I think I have a lot of company there. Studying the forums now to see what I can do to make it hotter. Any advice, tips, suggestions, etc., are appreciated. DB10

Would you mind updating your profile to include your location? It helps to know what part of the world you are smoking in when answering questions or offering advice.

I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions. I'm going to spend some time searching the archives first so I don't make folks rehash stuff they've already covered.

A few things I've already discovered:

• I'm going to need to get a new fire pan or seriously modify the one that came with the smoker.
• I may not have the right temperament for smoking! Or perhaps I should have gotten an electric one that won't need so much tending

Anyhow, thanks for the welcome and the nudge to fix the profile (which has been done now)
