Waterloo, NY - Finger Lakes
My name is John - just found this site today and it looked so good, I asked to join in on the fun.

I live in central NY (Finger Lakes) between Syracuse & Rochester. Been grilling forever but got

a Brinkman Gourmet smoker this spring and have done most of the popular mods on it. Just

put the lid gasket on this week so I'll be firing it up tomorrow for some chicken wings as a trial.

So far, everything I've made on it has been a big hit - it will be better now that temp control will

be better.

I'm married, in my mid 50's w/ 3 daughters between 21 & 26.... I'm an IT guy daytime and have been

doing that forever (unix sysadmin).

Really looking forward to spending some time on these forums and learning some new tricks. I

have a buddy that I'm slowly dragging into the world of charcoal & smoking....another couple

months and he'll be in too deep to get out! : ) He's already hooked on some of the stuff I've shared

and I'm a complete newbie at smoking....so far, it's been ribs and chicken.... once I have the hang

of temp control better, it will be time for a brisket....I figured I'd better crawl before I try to run,

especially with a pricey cut of beef!

Anyway, thanks for looking and I hope to be hanging here as much as possible.

to SMF!  We are so glad you joined us!

We love to see pictures of what you are cooking (or what we call q-views here at SMF).  To "upload the q-views" just follow the directions here and it will be easier. If you are using a cell phone, an IPad or a kindle, go to the main SMF page and click the Mobile button. Will make the uploads a bit faster too.

If you didn't read the "Terms of Service" notes.....please do.  There are a few things that everyone should know about those pesky little rules before plunging into the forums and some guidelines of how to interact within the forums. Off site links are not allowed here at SMF per Jeff. Not that you have done anything wrong....just a little bit of FYI for new members!

If you need any help roaming around the forums....just holler!  Happy to help out!

Thanks - I work in Rochester! Used to be at Kodak before they whacked 90% of their workforce (for real).

Now at the UofR - work for the Medical Center supporting Strong Hospital's systems.

Hope we can hook up one of these days. Just started the smoking thing but have been grilling since

high school (wow, a LONG time ago!)....

Sounds good John. I'm actually near the tail end of opening my own high end BBQ catering company. I love sharing my Q knowledge with anyone that wants to listen to me babble while throwing back a cold one!
