I cleaned my Smokin-It for the first time today. One surprise: the top of the smoke box was covered with lumps of carbonized crud. I didn't see that coming. I'm going to be putting foil on it from now on.
I lined the bottom with foil when I used it, but somehow the grease got around and went under it, leaving the bottom with a pretty decent layer of burned grease. How do the rest of you deal with this?
I fired up a steam cleaner, loosened the grease as well as possible, and wiped everything down with paper towels. There was no way it was going to come really clean without oven cleaner, so I left it at that. How clean does this thing have to be?
