hi all this is my first post and I just wanted to tell the story of how I obtained my smoker. I was driving and spotted a MES on the side of the road with a free sign on it (came with a sweet smoker cover). The sign indicated it had a bad element. I took it home and gave it a good scrub down (very filthy). I confirmed the element was burned out. I called masterbuilt and told them I needed an element. To my surprise they offered me one for free as a one time courtesy. They shipped it to my house and I installed it and now I have a nice working smoker. It’s nice to rescue something that was destined for the landfill. I have already smoked a few items in my “free” smoker and could not be happier. These forums opened my eyes to the a-maze-n tube and am very pleased with how much it improves the operation of the smoker. Thanks for listening!

Now you need to close the circle. Smoke some leg quarters or thighs, and go back to the place that left the smoker sitting out.

My Weber 22 was a $10 rescue from a junk pile in my neighbor's yard, else it would have gone into the dumpster as part of the property cleanout.
That is a great idea!

That is a great idea!

A few years ago, Linda's grandson was just getting big enough to ride one of those "Big Wheel" plastic tricycles. Someone left one on the curb with a For Free sign, so I grabbed it.

We actually put some miles on it.I escorted him to parks, etc. We would also run laps around the neighborhood, and one time the people who gave the trike away were sitting on their porch.

So I made the boy ride up their driveway and thank them.

He eventually outgrew it, and I left it on the curb, and it disappeared. I suppose that some kid somewhere is riding it today.

Hi there and welcome!

Great job on the smoker, it is awesome to get a score like that. I've been fortunate to find a couple of MES40's for like $40-50 in my area. I rewired them and put PID controllers on them and gave them as gifts to family members. Those smokers are rock solid now :)

Keep it up and I look forward to some meat smoking posts from you soon :)

I also was fortunate in finding a freebee MES40 which was dead. Now with an Auber PID controller attached, it's my go to smoker for all the fish we catch.
