smoke year around. I live in SW Virginia and climate is pretty mild. I have smoked anywhere from 25 to 100 degree temp, finished product all good. I do not recommend smokin in high winds.
Ambient temp 75°, Light breeze, right hand 40° <Beer temp>.
There is no "ideal" that I know of. I did a butt that started out in ambient of 9° and ended like 4°, and if it's hot, so what? Unless you are trying to cold smoke, of course.
72* is great, 38* for the cooled beverage, light breeze and no bugs, good friends to enjoy a great day with. A freezer and or fridge full of future smoke projects and favorite beverage and several stacks of good wood for smokin, makes for a perfect day! Oh, sometimes life is good!
