My Pitboss Austin XL sits in the sun. I set the grill on P2 right away. With the sun beating down on it the temp reading is 250. Does the grill have to get down to a certain temp before it will start the smoking process?
I also have Austin xl. For more smoke change p setting higher. 6 is my go to. The higher p setting the more smoke..... downside you will have more temp swings. It's not really an issue though
Does the temp reading of the grill affect the smoke setting?
My grill in the sunlight gets hotter than it does when the sun wasn't as hot in the earlier part of the year. I went directly to the P setting when I turned it on. The inside temp of the grill went to 240 degrees.
No. The p setting is basically a timer for how often it feeds pellets into the fire pit. Set desired p setting during start-up. If you do it during cook it can take up to 30min for the smoker to settle in to new setting
