This is obviously not BBQ related in the least. Saw a sale on a 50" 4K led tv that was just too good to pass up. $399. So I talked the wife into it and brought it home. We got it set up and we're both beyond astonished at the sharpness and clarity. I just can't believe this is what 400 bucks gets you. It's insane. Watched a few 4K videos on YouTube and it was so real it looked fake. Like it was cgi or something. Regular, over the air broadcast tv is a whole new experience as well.
I've sorta kept up with the technology curve on computers and phones and such, so I'm pretty much used to that. But I haven't bought a new tv in 7or 8 years. The tv we just replaced was a fairly cheap 37" LCD that, while it is 1080p, doesn't have a very great picture. And it cost more than this one. 8 years ago. This new one is just in a whole different league. I can't wait for football tomorrow!!

I hear you.

I've been looking at those TV's in Walmart & the price just keeps going down.

It's really unbelievable. I think back to what tvs cost in the 80's and it's just insane. $400 back then, which is what, $1200 in today's dollars, got you a pretty high end tv. But it was NOTHING compared to this. This is the LG on sale at Best Buy for $399.

Love LG TVs.

We made the jump to 4K last Black Friday because of the same kind of can't pass it up deal. When there is actually a decent amount of 4K content out there it will be even better.

I don't even know how long I've had my television

at first it's so amazing.

Then after awhile, yeah it's just television.

But you sure can tell if the actors and actresses haven't got the makeup perfect.

We stayed with a high end plasma Panasonic on my last upgrade about 4 years ago.  LED was not quite there on the tonal range and separation of high contrast scenes and shadow definition back then (this was pre-4K), as compared to the Samsung and Panasonic plasma units.  My daughter has a new 4K which cost about 1/2 of what my plasma did and it is just flat out awesome.   You would think these things will hit the "why bother" point in increases in resolution as the human eye can only resolve so much detail? I think 4K is getting pretty dang close to being there.

Do yourself a favor (everybody), and search Google for your TV's model number and "recommended settings," "picture adjustments," etc.  I just came into a replacement after my old one died, and it looked pretty bad when I first plugged it in.  Poked around, found some recommended settings, and it looks great.  Football is better than being there!

Good point. There are so many settings on mine it took a few days to get it all dialed in. I also agree about football! It looks amazing.

I have an old Samsung 720p set that I spent probably $3500 on back in the day.  I keep waiting for that sucker to die so I can get a new set, but it keeps chugging on...

Yeah tv prices have dropped way down! If you invest in a new one make sure to look at the specs and get a led lcd display with at least 120 or 240 hz refresh rate it will have a much better picture. I'm gonna pick up a new one on black friday
