So here I am, always wanted to smoke instead of gas cook.  I watch all the classics on TV Man Vs Food Diners Drive in and Dives etc.  My interest always peaks when they travel through the south and go to authentic BBQ places.  I live in the Great Whit North, right be side lake Superior, can't get much farther from BBQ country.  I've been experimenting with dry rubs on many racks of ribs and roasts and pork cuts.  But I haven't done it right yet without a smoker.

My wife bought me for my birthday this Single barrell 27.5" kings-ford smoker.  It has no fire box.  I have seen many youtube videos with side firebox's and that really seems to be the way to go.  I'm sure mine will work fine as is, but I wonder if anyone has used a single barrell smoker and added a firebox or could tell me a secret they learned through trial and error on cooking with one of these smokers.

I would Love some feedback on cooking with this type of grill or adding a side firebox or creating a way to best cook without direct heat in a single barrell smoker.

Thank you and I look forward to reading your replies!

plendra, morning and welcome to the forum....

This is the picture I found for the Kingford 27.5 smoking grill.... Is this your model ??  They make a side fire box you can add for indirect cooking, smoking....   For indirect, you will need something similar.....   There should be knock-outs already built in to the smoker body... there are several mods that may need to be done to the smoker to get it to cook properly...   Folks that have done mods to similar units will be along to help you make your smoker the best it can be...

Please take a moment and stop into " /Roll Call/   " and introduce yourself and get a proper welcome from our members.... Also, if you would note your location in your profile, it will help in the future when answering questions about smokin'...   elevation, humidity etc....

We're glad you stopped in and joined our group...    Enjoy the long smokey ride....

Thank you Dave Omark for replying.  Yes it is very similar to that one.  I am going to put it together this weekend.  I have looked at Home Depot and didn't see a add on for side firebox, but I will continue to look.
