I just ordered one of those slicers and meat mixers like debbie has.

Next on my list is a vacum sealer

Im a no frills guy but i would like a workhorse.
NO NO not one of those 1500 buck jobs lol

I want a home unit. white is fine.

I dont see the need for 2 speeds so far...

Please advise me.

What you would have bought or would like to have.

Ill spend the money if it is a solid machine((whatever that means)). I wont go over 250 which i believe will easily cover any of the home units.

But if any of you know of something special tell me any way. Its for the christmas season

HO HO HO

And thanks as usual

Scotty:

Many people on the forum really like the Foodsaver brand of vacuum sealers.

I own the Professional III model. It is heavy duty and does a great job. I think I paid about $175 for mine online.

I've got the Foodsaver sealer too. The model is V2420. It was less than $150 at Walmart about a month ago. We've used it for pulled pork and spare ribs so far and it seems to work really well. It has a setting for "wet" contents which seems to make a big difference on the vacuum it gets with the pulled pork and the juices that are on it.

Hope this is helpful.

QVC has the stainless steel model along with a canister and some bags for $149.00 . I don't have one, but have been looking at this one. Can anyone comment? It's the flip up model. QVC item number: K5493

The professional III mentioned earlir is $274 on the Q. QVC item number K118607

Can anyone speak to the differences of these two?

We have had a few FoodSavers and I feel they are the brand to purchase. I know when I say a few it does not make the product sound good. But trust me, our use is classified as abuse or not home use by the manufacturer. But I will say, the manufacturer has sent us a few replacement units also. If I recall correctly, they are sending another to my wife at this time. It is a good product and the manufacturer stands behind their product.

Heya richp692...do you have a special site on ebay that you buy the bags from or what...? Never even thought of that. Sure are expensive in a store...at least here they are.

I've also got the foodsaver and like it allot. Thanks.

To follow up with Marty's response - Foodsaver has a great customer service dept and stand behind their product. We have been using the foodsaver brand close to 10 years if I had to guess, and have had 5 different machines (some we only changed because we decided to upgrade to a higher end model).

We process and foodsaver about 10 deer a year (between family and friends). We package buffalo made products for my parents. We hunt and fish year round so there is birds and fish that get packaged with the food saver. Not to mention the grocery items that we buy in bulk during the year (cheese and meats to name a few). We usually have a garden so some items in there get packaged by the foodsaver.

But not only food, we have used this for other things. Winter survival kits - packaged matches to stay dry. I have even used it to seal important documents that I didn't want to get water damage in our shed. The possibilities are endless.

I have noticed that I do not care for the models that hold the roll within the machine. Too get the most money out of your rolls I tend to "cut it close" to where I want it to seal. With these style of machines you tend to have more waste on the end after the seal. Sorry if that sounds confusing - those that have a machine will know what I am saying and maybe can explain it better.

WOW great feedback.

I was wondering if all the foodsaver models have that little gizmo that is attached to a hose and is used for evacuating containers of some sort.
I want to use that feature to de gass my wine with vacum.

I have researched and it looks like the pro model doesnt have accesories. It is vague to me at this point
