I'm John and I'm from NY. I know my handle states as much. I have not as of yet even bought a smoker. I am an avid griller and love to cook in general. I'll usually shovel out the grill before the driveway when it snows. Got the idea of smoking from my grilling my slow cooked chicken quarters. One I just thought, hey how can I slow this down even more and drink more beer before dinner.

All kidding aside I'm still taking that look before I jump. Don't want to be looking at $300 metal container I never used while grilling up some burgers. Damn good burgers though.

I appreciate the help I've already received and for the info. I've gotten from reading the threads. My apologies for future dumb question.

Hello John

New York is kinda big.  What part are you from?  We're about 20-25 miles SW of Syracuse.

There's a lot to be said for starting simple and using your first smoker as training wheels.  Some awfully god product has been cranked out on some awfully inexpensive smokers.

Welcome to the site and the addiction.
