New here to the forums. Been reading for a few days and decided to join. Started smoking last year on a cheap grill I bought at Wal Mart and have had good luck. I'm looking to up my game this summer and this seemed like a great place to gain some knowledge. While I can't afford a $1000 + smoker at the time I'm currently looking at options and types. Thinking charcoal as it meets my needs and the time I want to spend at this point. Pellets seem easy (my friend has a pellet Grilla Grill which is awesome but it's basically set it and forget it) and wood seems too challenging ( Although I enjoy the monitoring and checking I do with charcoal on my cheap grill.) Doing research and maybe thinking a WSM or Oklahoma Joe but still far from having my mind made up at this point. Looking forward to learning lots while here!!
Ribs I did this weekend on the Wal Mart Expert Grill: Saint Louis style BB. After the wrap, then done and after being cut

Welcome to SMF from North FL

If you find wood is to challenging which it can be if you don't want to be tending to the fire a lot. I would recommend WSM . But if you like fire , smoke , BBQ ,and beverages of your choice and don't mind spending the whole day tending to the fire I say go with a stick burner it is very rewarding when you learn how to cook on it .

Welcome from NorCal. Glad you're here and thinking about the dark side with charcoal smoking. Just smoked two untrimmed racks of spares today for Mother's Day on my 22.5" WSM. Great smoker and fuel is cheap. There's usually a big charcoal 50% off sale on Memorial Weekend. Who knows, this year.

Enjoy the forum.

Right?? Been out of charcoal for months, doing everything all wood!

Welcome fellow Georgian! You'll find this to be the best place on earth or elsewhere for anything smoke or meat related. Or other. I use an MES 40' electric. Although it is supposed to be set and forget, I find myself tending to it almost 1-2 times per hour for 1 thing or another. Enjoy and Stay Safe.

Thanks for the welcome everyone! I've spent a couple of hours now watching WSM vids on YouTube along with vids on smoking ribs. Looking forward to getting better at this, there is so much to learn and so many options out there. I appreciate everyones opinion and help so far.
