Hello all, My name is Kenny. I have been wondering around this website for a month or better now. I have had a charcoal smoker for sometime and tried a few things but haven't gotten involved with it as much as i am getting into it now. I have been looking at smokers for a while now trying to decide what I want. I recently came across a MES30 on criagslist that was less then a year old for $15. The guy said it was heating up fine but he wasn't getting very much smoke. So i figured i could buy it and turn it into a propane one like another member has done. Why would it heat up right but not get any smoke? Anywho, thanks for all the great info and look forward to chatting and learning from all the great members here.

Hi Kenny!

to SMF! Glad you found us! I would jump on that MES, $15 you can't beat it. I don't have an electric but most of the MES users here are using an AMNPS for the smoke in them, seems to be a great combo. You might want to look into that, they are also great for cold smoking.

They are a sponsor of the forum and Todd is a great guy with great customer service and products.

Stick around and you'll see AMNPS everyday!

Good evening Kenny and welcome to SMF! For $15 I can't imagine you could go wrong with the MES. I have an MES 40 and absolutely love it. Pretty much set it and forget it when you pair it with the A-MAZE-N-SMOKERS(AMNS). Problem with the electric smokers is at lower temps (less than 180-200*), they don't produce much smoke at all. They'll roll smoke at higher temps!

Anyway, Dave (S2K9K) certainly steered you in the right direction with the suggestion of the AMNS products.

Jeff also has a smoking basics e-course that's free and you can sign up here:
