Hi everyone..!

I'm Ron, and have been a smoker 'dude for about 25 years. Born, raised and lived in Long Beach CA for over 61 years.. and now in Texas. (Whoa.. what a difference in climate!)

I first started with a propane smoker, and then moved on to a Treager and WSM's (2 of 'em). I moved to Hawaii for a project and sold my Treager and WSM's (i'm an idiot.. ya i know). So now that i'm in TX, I'm having an island built in my back yard by the pool. The island will be "L" shaped with a 36"x24" Santa Maria grill being built by JD Fabrications in (where else) Santa Maria CA. grill is a drop-in with round wheel with compression spring, and 85 lb adjustable rotisserie. As with any reputable fabricator my wait time for this drop-in is 4 to 6 weeks. :(

I'm looking to meet other like minded Santa Maria grill enthusiasts for discussions and what not.

(not a beginner to smoking.. i've taken a 2nd and 3rd place in ribs, and a 1st place in both chicken and bbq sauce, in state competitions)

have a great day,

ron-

the grill is forthcoming.. and the timing to start building the island is next saturday the 24th. this said, i'll look for a few of my older pictures and post 'em up.

Famous hamburger joint in Tempe AZ, the Chuck Box, uses a Santa Maria grill. Love it!

what i like about the santa maria grill is that the cooking surface can be raised and lowered .. gotta like that! and i 'm having an 85 lb. rotisserie installed which will be able to be raised and lowered also in the finished product as well (think whole piglet).

my better half really does not like overly smoked meats. this said when picking a new grill, i had to pick one that wasn't going to impregnate too much smokiness into the meats.. so, i'll get the best of both worlds in my new santa maria grill .. grilling and smoking.

for those of you that love ribs.. one of the BEST places for ribs (anywhere) is in Santa Maria, CA. Try Shaws..

sure i have.. lockharts in dallas, saltlick in austin, hard 8 i(real crummy), pecan lodge. these were suppose to be some of the best.

lockharts, saltlick and pecan lodge are real good. but don't knock Shaws .. there tremendous:cool::cool:!
