Thanks for the welcome I'll be smokin from n.e. ga. I'm very inexperienced and i'm useing a brinkman electric smoker. However, i must pat myself on the back everthing has turned out great except for the brisket. At some point l'll graduate to a wood burner. I'll be a bit patient in choosing the appropriate smoker to build or buy! I'm surely expecting to hear from the members on the topic. I'm likely to remain quiet for a while and just learn from you pros.

Welcome! Had my first smoke today on my wood smoker that I just finished building today! So I am new to this as well. Lots to learn here! Ask questions and have some fun.

Thanks again for the kind welcomes! 1st guestion, how do i keep from burning out my heating element on my brinkman? My wood chips are about the size of an orange or apple sliced to about 1/2 inch. They always make contact with the element. I've used a rack and foil with dried wood but the food is normally done before the smoking process has started!. I think I'm about to burn out my second element.

I used to put the chips/chunks as close as I could get them without touching the element. Try that and see if it helps.

Thanks, I do make that effort but, usely drop the chunks through the small doorway while burning myself. I tried useing tongs but without success due to the angle. This is one reason I'm considering a different type smoker.
