Having trouble getting smoke

Hi all, does anyone on here have trouble getting a good smoke going with this smoker? It has the side door with the small element. I tried chunks and the heating element doesn’t seem hot enough to keep the smoke going. I’ve also tried chips and they start on fire and it’s a mess after that…Any info is super helpful! Thanks!

Don't have that smoker but do have a mes 30. I would recommend doing a mailbox mod and putting an amnps tray in the mailbox for smoke. Kinda like this...

The amnps tray is sitting on top of mailbox in this pic. It gets filled with pellets and lit then placed inside the mailbox. Should get ya at least 8 hours of smoke. I also have a pid controller I added on mine... that's on top of smoker.

Make sure you dumping into the burning tray and not on the element! I dont think its designed for lumps either.

Thanks! It doesn’t have a tray. It just has a small door that opens up to a small heating element. It’s kinda strange.
