Was gathering up some scraps to burn from the shop and came across a nice hunk of walnut. Walnut being my favorite looking wood, I couldn't just burn it, so I took a little spare time to make this

Rubbed in mineral oil and sanded smooth. It's sitting on legs about 1" tall so you can slide a plate underneath and scrape veggies onto it. I don't really like to use wood cutting boards because I can't cut up meat on them, but I just thought I couldn't let the wood go to waste in a fire. I'm considering selling it maybe on craigslist, what do you think I could ask for it? Also, the wood this is made from came from a tree 100+ years old that was cut down almost 40 years ago, so I'm not too concerned about warping as it is one solid piece of wood(almost 2" thick).

I think so, I have plenty of wood still to make more if I want another. I kind of just made this one for fun, and because I hate wasting a nice piece of wood. Plus I really don't have much space for it at this time.

Really nice board... as far as cutting meat on a wood board... somewhere on here I read an article about wood versus plastic... It turned out that the study showed plastic was worse for holding all the bad things in the knife cuts and the pores of the plastic... also the plastic dulled the knifes faster...

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I don't really wish to debate on the benefits between wood, plastic or glass cutting boards. My preference is plastic because I can abuse them and soak for extended times to sanitize without ruining them. I have used wood before and they do a fine job, I've just been in foodservice long enough to have my pre-dispositions on food safety, and it works for me. Wood is definitely the better looking option, that point would be tough to debate!

As far as a price you can sell the board for.. probably not as much as you think. Last year I made a bunch of end grain butcher block boards (12"x18"x1.5" thick) out of hard maple and purple heart and had a hard time getting $60 each for them. Wasn't worth my time to make any more. Ebay is hit or miss because of the shipping charges. People are used to going to the local store and picking up a thin piece of crap wood cutting board for $20 to $30 and cant justify spending more on something unique or of much better quality. Solid slabs are nice too, but they have a tendency to split after they have been washed a few times (in my experience). Make sure you put the same finish on all sides of that slab. The wood will crack and or warp if it dries unevenly
