In a few weeks we're going on another vacation to the States.
This time it's a round trip with stops in Houston, Austin, Dallas, Vicksburg, Mobile, Pensacola and New Orleans.
I've already searched and noted down relevant sites with recommended BBQs and sights.

Now I'd be interested in tips from locals.
What are your favorite restaurants or interesting places that you have to see but that aren't mentioned in every travel guide?
I also always like to take a local spirit back from my trips for my collection.
We also welcome shops that sell equipment for smokers and everything that goes with it.
Do you have any recommendations?

I would be very happy to receive your input.

I have no experience in any of those cities but have a great vacation! My wife and I made a multi-city stop vacation out of a road trip to Ft Worth for a wedding. We cut it short by a few days and came back home to Virginia because we were so exhausted from hotel hopping. We tend to pack heavy and I was transporting a cooler full of boudin and sausage from Shreveport I just HAD to stop and get to bring home. Hauling that around made it even harder in and out of hotels!

Thank you, that sounds like a stressful vacation.

Might check storm damage in these areas .
It's still a few weeks until our vacation, but I'll keep an eye on it.
Thanks for the tip.

I would like to answer this question myself and help others.
It was a very nice trip that we would do again at any time.
Of course we visited a number of BBQ restaurants and can now list our favorites.

Moe's BBQ in Orange Beach, Alabama
An incredibly juicy and tender turkey.
Chicken tenders with a great breading.
And brisket at its finest.

Terry Black's in Lockhart, Texas
Really great brisket that literally melted in your mouth.
Pickled onions with a very fine taste.

Bill-E's in Fairhope, Alabama
I had a great burger there with a very good smoky flavor
and great side dishes.

I would also like to mention a restaurant from our previous vacation.
Firehole Bar-B-Que in West Yellowstone, Montana
We had the best spare ribs we have ever eaten there.
Falling off the bone and super juicy.
And a brilliant sauce.
