Grate question for Uds

Had a thought / random idea for my Uds. I have seen pit barrel cookers and smokers with sausage hooks and was intrigued by the hanging smoking technique. I don't have the funds to upgrade to a different smoker and I enjoy my Uds. Anyway my idea was to take a spare grate I have and remove several rows and grab some hooks. Any thoughts?

That would work. You could also insert rods through the side of the barrel and hang hooks off of that, removing the top grate of course

Thanks. I considered a rod but had the extra grate laying around. Have you used meat hooks before? Are the results better than just laying on a grate?
