gasoline to burn out liner?

Would it be safe to use gasoline to start a fire for burning the liner out of a drum? Idk if it would release fumes in the future while cooking? I wouldn't think so but just want to be sure.

I personally wouldn't do it but I don't know how it would be any different then people using barrels that stored toxic material in it before. If you do a really good burn I would think it would be ok.

Just load up that drum with some broken down hardwood pallets and hit it with a propane torch.

That way you don't have to worry about any petroleum residue after the burn out. Simple rule of thumb is "When in doubt~Don't" (YMMV).

ahhh, I had a feeling. We did a small burn tonight, and he used gasoline twice. Would you suggest scrapping it or do you think I could get away with it doing another burn without it?

I would track down 2 or 3 pallets and cut them up and burn them up and that should be enough of a fire to burn anything out hopefully.

If it were me, I would scrub the entire inside with degreaser, rinse it out, and then do another burn using just broken down pallets.

I agree with all of the above folks and say not a great idea but. Yo can do what you want to I mean it will burn out but get a really good fire going and let it rip.

Thanks for the replies guys. I bought a torch today but I didn't know I needed plumbers tape and when we hooked it up it was leaking where the torch male threads and the hose connects so we didn't want to risk it. I ended up using some lighter fluid and a whole lot of wood and did another burn tonight, I'm guessing that may have not been much better than gasoline? This burn seems to have did some damage, almost all of the paint on the outside came off and I see some bare metal on the inside, not sure if it totally took the liner off though because there's so much soot and ash inside. Any suggestions on how to clean that out good? Hopefully I'll get the issues with the torch worked out and can track down some wood pallets(almost everywhere I called says they recycle them, any suggestions on where to get some) and then I'll do a burn with just the torch, which from what I gather should make the drum good to go?

IMHO gas in a smoker will be nasty. lighter fluid probity not much better
