There is a store around here that sells groceries dirt cheap, including meats like ribs chicken roast, ground beef hams etc. The meat packaging has a stamped on it "FROZEN BEFORE EXPIRATION". What I saw was at least a year after expiration but was told that its good as long as it has never been thawed. To my knowledge this is meat that was in the freezer of another store before they gave up trying to sell it. Would this in fact be good meat as long as it was thawed and cooked or smoked immediately? This meat is cheap but dont want to get sick off of it. This place is a retail store.

The Chefs here will let you know about that. I have never heard of this. Will be interesting to see what they say.

I would be wondering who can guarantee it was never thawed during that year. Sounds kinda scary to me!

Try it in small quantities and see what you think?

I prefer as local as I can get, fresh, and to freeze myself.

For the seafood items like shrimp and scallops and others that the stores in most of the country get frozen, I prefer to buy it still frozen rather than thawed and sitting in the display case.

I have had very bad luck with bargain frozen chicken from that other part of the country!

Frozen meat, while still safe, will degrade in quality over time.

In particular, rancidity can be a problem in meat that has been frozen too long or not handled properly.

Good luck and good smoking.

Ive had and considerd the results of trying the meat. What has me wondering is what is going to happen if I want to thaw, marinate and then smoke the next day, I can see the color of the meats thru the packaging but tells me little of whats inside. The guy who runs the place says he is under the inspections that all other stores are. Packages are vac packed if that adds anything to the length of time it can be frozen. Ive guess I ve had deer meat that they told us it was good for at least 2 years or longer if its vac packed as opposed to just meat wrapping  paper. I think trying it a little at a time might be the way to try it out for taste. Its cheap enough, I can throw it if I dont like it.
