Freeezing Standing Rib Roast

Discussion in 'Beef' started by james gordon, Feb 23, 2015.

  1. I found a nice 8lb rib Roast  for 4.99lb so I jumped on it having no idea when I can smoke it .I need suggestions on how to prepare for freezing and how long before I need to cook it.

Tanks for any advice I can get.

Wrap in plastic wrap, then shrink wrap it. Defrost when ready slowly in the fridge. Rub down the night before and you are smokin.

I think I have seen Bearcarver post about buying rib roast in bulk and freezing. Maybe he can help.

If that's Choice You really got a buy!!!   That's not bad for Select either.

I always get PR during Christmas week, but I get 5 or 6 pounders. Then I put them right in a Vacuum bag & seal them & date them & freeze them, except for the one we eat shortly after buying them.

I've had them in my freezer at 0° as long as 2 years, without a problem, and I'm sure they would have gone a lot longer in vacuum bags.

If I had an 8 pounder & no vacuum bag big enough, I'd cut it in half & freeze both halves.

Then: This is how I do them:
