Is it a real bone? And if so, where did it come from? Why would I want a bone in a hot dog, when I can just eat a normal one with my fingers.

Cost saving....it is a way to market something that has no food value and kick it out the door...AND they are using less meat paste for what I suspect is a higher price because of the novelty.
