I've been having trouble coming up with a reliable source of wood for the smoker. Maple and white oak are a dime a dozen on marketplace, but I've always used hickory for a lot of things and wanted to try to stick with it. So I've had to resort to buying the 1.5cf boxes at Walmart. I'm burning through those pretty quick in this cold weather and the cost is starting to add up. Internet prices are pretty ridiculous, too. So I was starting to give up.

And then it hit me and I felt kind of dumb for not thinking of it before. Even though I work on the construction side of things, I remembered I'm management level at a company that has a logging and clearing division.

Had a quick chat with our wood superintendent in the parking lot and a week later, he sent me this!

Picked up the first load this weekend and have another stick to go when I go back down later this week. Should be a little more than a face cord by the time its split.

I went from getting stressed about sourcing wood to getting any non-fruit species I want for free for the rest of my time at this company!

Huge score! Wood prices (outside of kiawe) in the islands have been ridiculous lately. I do find some kiawe on the side of the road though, so I can't complain.

That's like discovering a gold mine.

There's a whole lot of people selling wood here who are very shady. Its a crap shoot.

Thanks, guys! It was definitely a "DUH!" moment when I realized it was that easy.:emoji_laughing:

Wood sellers are definitely sketchy around here. My father and brother both heat their houses with woodstoves. They've had nothing bet bad experiences on market place, but they still buy every year to supplement what they get from here. They're both project managers at my company, but don't want to abuse this privilege.
