Well, maybe, and, maybe not. I called on a Craigslist ad for a slicer for $15. The ad said that they haven't used it much and now don't use it at all so I figured if it lasted for a year of light duty work, I'll have gotten my money's worth.
Here's the sin part...I met with the lady who was selling it and she showed it to me, showed it worked, explained how she no longer needs it since the kids are gone, and so on. I explain to her why I needed one; what with having the guys here at the church and how we'll smoke some turkey breast on the cheap and have the best sandwich meat in the world but the slices were always so uneven using a knife.
So, I hand the $15 over to her, thank her for the transaction, tell her to have a blessed day and start to walk out the door when she stops me. "This is for the church," she asked, "right?" I reiterated that it indeed was going to the ministry and she hands me $10 back and says that $5 was a better deal for us. Wow! Thanks!
So, this happens a lot with us and the ministry where I'll be out supplying stuff for the church and I'll wind up with a super discount because it's for a worthwhile cause. Mind you, I never go into a transaction expecting a deal. People ask and I tell them and I wind up with a blessing (that is, after all, what it is). This past summer I was buying three used air conditioners for the church and the dorm area and wound up with three for the price of one and two were new! Not a sin, just another opportunity to say, "Thank you, Jesus!"
Anyways, here it is our new slicer! I can't wait to smoke some more beast and fowl to slice for sandwiches!
