Well... it's that time of year again in Portland, OR. Water dripping off of your brow, clouds in the air.... oh wait that's sweat dripping off your brow and steam coming out of your ears!
For those that have never been there, there is a resteraunt in the west hills of Portland called Salvador Molly's. Awesome food from all over the world, and a spice level that goes from 1-20 - what most resteraunts would call "hot" registers about a 7 on Salvador Molly's scale.
Then once a year they have a charity eating contest to see who can eat the most Great Balls of Fire!
Now I grew up in NM, off and on for about 10 yrs., and I like spicy food, I even like habanero's.... but these things are a whole new world of hurt! For the first 30-60 seconds they are the best tasting fritter you have ever had! Then the habanero's start to go to work on your taste buds! If you can eat all 5 with the dipping sauce you get your picture put up on the wall. I ate 2 1/2 and an hour later it hurt to pee! I mean damn - I have never eaten anything so hot that it hurt to pee!
If anybody feels brave (or stupid) enough here is a link from our local paper that talks about it and gives the dates. If you do enter make sure you have somebody take a picture or two for the rest of us.
