I picked up a new deep fryer.

I made some beer battered cod and spiral potatoes. I was happy with my first try at this.

Hell yeah! Cool idea on the potatoes....I've never seen those before.
They are made with a Tornado Spiral Potato Cutter. You peel the potatoes, stab them with the included metal skewer, then place a wooden skewer in the hole you just made. Place it in the machine and spin away. When it finished you spread out the spiral and deep fry them.

As for the beer batter it was pretty simple.
1 1/2 cups of all purpose flour
1 teaspoon of smoked paprika
2 Tablespoons of Kinder's Blend (any GSP will do)
1 teaspoon of baking powder
1 can of Miller Lite beer

This was way too much for what I made but would do it again.

That is one of my favorite meals, Chris.
That looks kill'er too me.

We have a huge Myer's lemon tree on the side of our house, which is the house my wife grew up in. Her Dad planted it from seed, over 55 yrs ago, and it's still pumping out way more than we can use. I pick the tree clean at the end of summer, juice the lemons and freeze in ice cube trays, for margarita's and iced drinks. We give away a lot of lemons as well, people love them. I actually like regular old school lemons better, but my wife loves her Myer's lemons.

I like what you did with the potatoes, how did you cut them?

My old roommate just got back from his Canadian salt water fishing trip, he brought home 60 lbs of Ling cod, which is my favorite fish to eat.
I need to go pick some up after seeing your fish and chips.

Tonight, it's Teriyaki Blue fin tuna, that I caught last fall out of Santa Cruz CA.

That does look really good! And I'm not even named Keith, but I think three peas in a pod is enough! :emoji_blush:

Sweet.
I miss my electric deep fry unit. Bought a gas powered unit and just don't like it.
Thanks for the batter recipe.
I recently learned that adding alcohol to a flour batter stops the gluten development and makes a lighter textured coating on food you fry
Wife not fond of beer so maybe using a piss water light beer will help.

Piss water is recommended. Heavy beers can make it bitter.

Sweet, I just ordered one, those potatoes look killer. Do you use it for anything else?

Thanks.
Dan.

It works with veggies as well. Just make sure to push the skewer all the way thru. I only got the skewer half way thru the carrot, when it got to the end the carrot started falling to pieces.
